It's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums, a lot more eyes there. More than 95% of the issues are resolved in the forums, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of.
Having said that, a focused, restricted to the forums, quick search for "MPU-401 site:virtualbox.org" turns out some interesting results:
- VB 4.3.6 DOS Sound / MPU-401
- MPU-401 Passthrough for SB16 audio
- (Workaround) Need mpu-401 device in WinXP as guest
- ... and many more.
Is there or will there be a solution?
Based on the threads in the forums above, and the replies by the developers, I'd say that unless someone provides the source code patches to provide SB16 MPU-401 support, I don't see it happening. I'm even tempted to close this as [WontFix]... ;)
BTW, a bug is something promised and doesn't work as promised. You're describing additional functionality. Changing the "Type" from "Defect" to "Enhancement".
