#19418 new defect
Guest Additions: Debian 10 Auto resize display problem

Component: | guest additions/x11/graphics | Version: | VirtualBox 6.0.18 |

Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Mac OS X |
Description
v6.0.18 r136238
Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-6.0.18
Guest additions installed on Debian 10, however there is an issue with view "automatic resize guest display". When this option is checked, the display of the Debian 10 session maximized or a Full Screen session is invoked, then the display shows a black blank screen with mouse pointer. I'm using a MacBook 12" with 2304 x 1440 Retina display. I had a similar problem in the past for this display and virtual box maintainers fixed it. I suspect something may be going on with the resolution scaling code.

In order to be able to reproduce may I ask for clarification:
"When this option is checked, the display of the Debian 10 session maximized or a Full Screen session is invoked, then the display shows a black blank screen with mouse pointer."
Am I right in my understanding that you are trying to say this:
How to reproduce?
1) select VM option "automatic resize guest display"
2.1) maximize the VM window OR
2.2) turn VM window into "Full screen session"
Observe that the VM windows draws a black screen with only a mouse pointer.
Is that a correct interpretation?

I cannot reproduce this on:
Host: Ubuntu 18.04.4 Guest: Debian 10 Vbox: 6.1.4
Could you give 6.1.4 a try on your MacOS host?

Also I cannot reproduce this on:
Host: Ubuntu 18.04.4 Guest: Debian 10 Vbox: 6.0.18
Maybe this is specific to MacOS hosts.

What is the graphics adapter you use? Please attach your VM log so that we don't have to play guessing game.
