6.1.8 GA provokes "The parent session seems to be non-X11"

Description
Host: Win10-1803
Guest: Linux Mint 18.3
Notification: "VBoxClient: The parent session seems to be non-X11. Exiting..."
Symptom: 800x600 VBox window clips 3840x1986 Linux Mint desktop making it unusable.
Workaround: Regessed to GA 6.1.8

If you are running with Xwayland then this screen resizing is currently not supported.
If you are running with Xorg then this is very likel a duplicate of bug:
#19590: VBoxClient: The parent session seems to be non-X11

I don't know what Xwayland or Xorg are, but I can tell you that,
1, 6.1.6 worked, 6.1.8 has problems, and
2, I regressed to GA 6.1.6 but kept VBox 6.1.8, so it appears the GA is the problem, and
3, though I don't know much of #19590, it reads nearly exactly a duplicate of my difficulties.
"Workaround: Regessed to GA 6.1.8" should be "Workaround: Regressed to GA 6.1.6"
