#19778 awaitsfeedback defect
Guest additions screen resize detection code fails
Reported by: | Sysop | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | guest additions | Version: | VirtualBox 6.1.8 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | other |
Description
Although I have now upgraded to 6.1.12 for Virtualbox itself and the extensions, I am maintaining the VMs at guest additions 6.1.6 because 6.1.8 introduced an error where the screen resize instruction fails (on Linux machines) when using the 3D facility, e.g. Cinnamon. Making it impossible to run them headless and the issue has been carried over into 6.1.10 & 6.1.12 too. A Debian/Cinnamon VM actually reports the failure to the user.

Thought this might be related #19496, but see this is 6.1.8 -- in any case, original reporter "SysOp" please test again with VirtualBox 6.1.14 and provide as much of information requested above as possible.
This is entirely useless as a bug report.
At the minimum in order to reproduce this we'd need to know:
1) the host OS version/distro and kernel version
2) the guest OS version/distro and kernel version
3) what graphics adapter has been used for the VM, is it the
4) what display manager/environment are you using in the guest?
5) is the guest using Xorg or Xwayland?
6) How much video memory have you given to the guest?
7) is 3D acceleration enabled for this guest in the GUI?
finally
8) once you install the latest GAs in the guest, what does exactly fail and how does it fail?
9) is failure inside the guest or at the host level?
10) any errors that are reported? please attach the vbox.log file the VM when it encounters the failure you mention.
