[Linux host/Linux guest] VMSVGA does NOT allow to change resolution

Reported by: Artem S. Tashkinov Owned by:
Component: 3D support Version: VirtualBox 6.1.10

Guest type: Linux Host type: Linux

Description

I've tried multiple Linux guests and all of them exhibit the same issue: when you try to change desktop resolution it changes for a few seconds and immediately reverts back to 800x600 which is extremely annoying even with kernel 5.7.15/Fedora 32 64bit.

I've even enabled 3D acceleration and set VRAM to 128MB with no success. I'm not using VirtualBox guest additions.

In dmesg multiple error messages can be seen:

[drm:vmw_msg_ioctl [vmwfgx]] *ERROR* Failed to open channel.

The VBoxSVGA driver does not have this issue. I haven't tested VBoxVGA.
