Description
I've been using VirtualBox for over a decade with few if any problems, but growing instability with Ubuntu from Win10 has at this point made it unusable. The problem started off with me not being able to update things from ubuntu itself, and progressed from there. At this point, I have completely uninstalled VirtualBox, deleted my user/.VirtualBox/ directory, then reinstalled VirtualBox. When I try to install Ubuntu 20.0.4.1 (ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso) something always goes wrong: it will freeze partway through the installation (at different points every time). I finally got it to go through the entire installation process, and now the system itself is unstable: I get multiple popup windows saying that it 'encountered a problem' and asking if I want to report it. One time, it hung trying to run 'Terminal'. Rebooting let me run Terminal, but then froze doing 'apt-get update'.
Things I have tried:
- Changing the amount of RAM available. More seemed to help (several hundred times more than the 'recommended' amount), but not consistently.
- Changing the network from NAT to Bridged (cf https://askubuntu.com/questions/149170/all-my-ubuntu-vms-have-apt-get-update-problems)
I'm happy to provide more information; not sure what
Log file from currently-running and unstable ubuntu system.
