Description
Hi. I've installed current VirtualBox 1.3.8 on Ubuntu Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 32bit. I've tried both: VirtualBox package for Ubuntu Eft, and the binary for any Linux distro.
uname -a Linux peterk-inspiron 2.6.17-11-generic #2 SMP Thu Feb 1 19:52:28 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
When starting a VM - installed VirtualBox for Ubuntu Eft:
Failed to start VM execution (VERR_PGM_MAPPING_CONFLICT). Result Code: 0x80004005 Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}
When running VirtualBox for all Linux distributions:
peterk@peterk-inspiron:~$ nohup /opt/VirtualBox-1.3.8/VirtualBox & [1] 6817 peterk@peterk-inspiron:~$ nohup: appending output to `nohup.out' [1]+ Segmentation fault (core dumped) nohup /opt/VirtualBox-1.3.8/VirtualBox peterk@peterk-inspiron:~$ cat nohup.out Qt WARNING: X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 166 Major opcode: 144 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Qt WARNING: Failed to open device Qt WARNING: X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 166 Major opcode: 144 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Qt WARNING: Failed to open device
Please help. Thank you for VirtualBox.

I forgot to add (sorry) - I have no segmentation fault. When I try to install XP, the popup appears with the error mentioned above and the vm process is just aborted.

Hi again. The problem is with memory allocation. If I give more memory for windows VM, it will end up with the error above. If I leave it with recommended 192mb, it works!!! I could raise that value with Ubuntu though

This has been fixed in SVN already and will be in the next official release.

I've seen the same problem in 1.5.6 The weird thing is that before changing the memory to 192mb, for some reason, I double clicked on the machine at the left column that lists the machines, and it starts ok.
I'm running Debian 4.0r3 AMD64 , with compiz, nVidia drivers 169.09 I'll be glad to provide any information that might help.
Thanks

Strangely i got the issue after updating to 2.6.25 and 1.5.7 mod and 1.5.6 OSE. Thanks thunderforce for the workaround, for some reason double clicking the VM instead of clicking Start does work.

Please all experiencing this problem, please attach the VBox.log file of such a failing session. And add the information how many RAM your host has.

I also got this message when I tried to use any kind of network. If I disabled network, then machine started up. After I did: chmod 660 "/dev/vboxdrv" my machine is able to start and I can use network.

I experienced this on a RHEL5 update2 host. Machine was started through VBoxHeadless (non-OSE version). Log file attached in previous comment

Please reopen if this problem is still relevant with VBox 3.1.6. In that case, attach a VBox.log file for such a VM session.
Same here, but Ubuntu Feisty. I used edgy package, as it was said to be working. uname -a Linux hell666 2.6.20-12-generic #2 SMP Sun Mar 18 03:07:14 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
I have exactly the same error popup when trying to install win xp. However, I tried installing Ubuntu Breezy and it worked. In both attempts I used iso made from CD, because for some reason, virtualbox doesn't see my cdrom (well, not only virtualbox, something is broken in Feisty I think).
So, it looks like an issue with windows?
I hope someone finds a solution...
