Apple M1 chip runs virtual box but does not support 64 bit systems within vb

Description
when creating new systems it only allows 32 bit systems within vb. is this a software issue or a hardware issue?

Apple M1 is not supported with 6.1 (and not with 7.0 for which there is only a rudimentary developer preview).
