#21107 awaitsfeedback defect
VM's keep freezing
Reported by: | ArtZ | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 6.1.38 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Windows |
Description
Have several different VM's. They all keep freezing unless I click the mouse pointer in the VM window. Even tried pausing VM from menu, then unpausing. Each time the VM runs for about a second or two before it freezes up. The VM's boot up okay, and windows desktop runs and initializes, but after a few minutes the VM's keep pausing.
Very repeatable. LMK if more information is needed. Attached log here from one VM. Thank you

Cant tell if just the display freezes or its the whole vm freezing. But still happens. Tried various settings with no luck. Here's another log and screen shot example. Thank you

Hello,
Same here, exactly as described by Artz. At vbox.log, there are several entries like these:

All my VMs are pretty much useless all of the sudden... Very disappointing!

The same happens to my virtual machines. I am using VirtualBox 7.02 on a hosw windows 11 64 bit machine, and the last guest I created anew is a windows 11 64 bit as well. Therefore the problem is not related to a bug in the virtual disk, since it is replicable in all VMs. The machine boots up regularly, but within 1 - 10 minutes the machine freezes (does not accept any input, even the CTRL ALT CANC from the menu nor the close machine from the menu). Checked for viruses, disabled windows defender... but nothing works.

There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with VB. Tried up grading VM's from VB 6 above to 7.04 with same issue.
After spending several hours fiddling around with settings etc. I did discover by chance a work around that seems to allow the VM to run 90% of the time. Every so often it still hangs. Herein may lie a clue to the fundamental problem.
Changing chipset to ICH9 and PS/2 Mouse keeps the VM heartbeat alive (most of the time). At least in my case. Previous settings are in the logs I took the time to submit 4 months ago.
Disappointing support by Oracle here - no triage or assistance in support of this issue.

Exact same problem, very frustrating, windows 11 client, windows 11 host, and it keeps freezing very often, it's almost unusable.
Tried VB 7.2 and 7.4, it's even worse.
I hope they'll soon fix it.

Same exact issue here, Win 11 host with Win 11 guest.
Without 3D acceleration the machine freezes up, WITH 3d acceleration the UI is unusable.
There's now a TON of posts about this, please address the issue.
Thank you.
Able to resync system time via windows settings. Then a few moments later things freeze and time is off again too. See picture and new log attached.
