second network interface cannot talk to network

Description
I added a second interface to a Linux (Ubuntu) VM, bridged, and it does not talk to the network at all. It's supposed to get an IP address via DHCP, but it fails. It's the same class as the first interface, which means that ceteris paribus should work in identical ways.
