Description
Hi, I seem to be experiencing an issue very similar to this ticket https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21487
The issue is when enabling 3D acceleration on my Ubuntu VM it will lead to graphics freeze and I will only be able to force Power Off the machine.
When frozen audio can still be heard, but will also stop after some time.
With 3D acceleration disabled no freeze is seen, however I need 3D acceleration for my use case.
I have attached the VBox log
Test case
I see this issue by running a local build of webkit which plays video content, and also running Chrome playing video content. This seems to speed up the issue.
Note, the freeze will be seen eventually when doing anything, e.g. just using the VM for long enough.
Attempted fixes
I have tried changing many settings of the VM but only 3D acceleration has any impact. I have tried:
- reducing/increasing RAM
- reducing/increase CPUs
- reducing/increasing Video memory
- Using different Acceleration settings
- Changing Audio controller
- Uninstalling Guest Additions: the freeze still occurs
Any help or suggestions on things to try is appreciated.
