#22022 new defect

Cloning error

Reported by: charleboisjed Owned by:

Description

I use Virtual box and it has been working great until now. I am running version 7.0.14 r161095 (Qt5.15.2) on MacOS 14.2.1. Cloning used to work, however, the Win10 guest OS clones now indicate that they need to be repaired. The clones are Win10.

Ditto here using Linux Mint 21.2 as Host, Virtualbox 7.1.2 r164945 (Qt6.5.3)with Windows 10 Pro as Guest (latest updates applied as of 20th Nov 2024).

When I use the virtualbox clone tool to create a full copy preserving UUID's, it generates lots of disk errors in syslog, and the resultant cloned VM has both SFC & DISM errors in the windows 10 guest (both are CLEAN in the original VM prior to cloning). It is NOT physical disk errors as I can happily use Borg Backup to restore a copy to the same destination folder or a caja file copy to the same destination folder neither of which results in any disk errors in syslog. It would appear to be something in the method used for cloning that is triggering internal corruption within the vdi & the logging of disk errors.

Errors in syslog are along the lines of: Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.592990] ata4.00: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x2000 SErr 0x4890000 action 0xe frozen Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593004] ata4.00: irq_stat 0x08400040, interface fatal error, connection status changed Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593008] ata4: SError: { PHYRdyChg 10B8B LinkSeq DevExch } Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593015] ata4.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593018] ata4.00: cmd 60/40:68:4f:f4:4d/00:00:74:00:00/40 tag 13 ncq dma 32768 in Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593018] res 40/00:68:4f:f4:4d/00:00:74:00:00/40 Emask 0x10 (ATA bus error) Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593028] ata4.00: status: { DRDY } Dec 3 18:19:22 xxxxxx kernel: [125098.593036] ata4: hard resetting link Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.504894] ata4: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505375] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF.DSSP], AE_NOT_FOUND (20210730/psargs-330) Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505386] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505388] No Local Variables are initialized for Method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505388] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505389] No Arguments are initialized for method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505390] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.505391] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20210730/psparse-529) Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506359] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF.DSSP], AE_NOT_FOUND (20210730/psargs-330) Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506368] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506369] No Local Variables are initialized for Method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506370] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506370] No Arguments are initialized for method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506371] Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506372] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20210730/psparse-529) Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506714] ata4.00: configured for UDMA/33 Dec 3 18:19:27 xxxxxx kernel: [125103.506725] ata4: EH complete Dec 3 18:19:28 xxxxxx kernel: [125104.528765] VBoxNetFlt: attached to '4026531840/enp2s0' / 90:2b:34:df:e0:b3 Dec 3 18:19:28 xxxxxx kernel: [125104.539097] device enp2s0 entered promiscuous mode Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.528871] ata4: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529339] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF.DSSP], AE_NOT_FOUND (20210730/psargs-330) Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529349] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529351] No Local Variables are initialized for Method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529352] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529352] No Arguments are initialized for method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529353] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.529354] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20210730/psparse-529) Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530269] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF.DSSP], AE_NOT_FOUND (20210730/psargs-330) Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530277] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530278] No Local Variables are initialized for Method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530279] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530280] No Arguments are initialized for method [_GTF] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530281] Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530282] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20210730/psparse-529) Dec 3 18:19:34 xxxxxx kernel: [125110.530645] ata4.00: configured for UDMA/33
