#22137 new defect

Guru meditation when host (win10) memory is low.

Description

I am using VBox 7.0.18 r162988 (Qt5.15.2) under windows 10 64bit host, and guest OS is linux.

When low-memory condition of host memory occurs (I am allocating 24GB out of 48GB on host) occurred, VBox entered guru meditation.

I *think* in this case, since it seems unrecoverable, VBox might simply show a display that it can no longer execute and shut itself down leaving the full log intact.

OR,at the early stage of low-memory condition on the host, VBox should display a dialog saying somethine like, "Low memory condition on the host. Close applications so that VirtualBox can proceed. It may be wise for you to save the machine after memory becomes available."

(in my case, "PGM: Failed to procure handy pages; rc=-27 cHandyPages=0x8" and the repeated failures signals a low memory condition on the host and can trigger the error dialog.)

I am attaching the log.

Unless such a clear indication is shown, the user is left in limbo trying to figure out if the behavior (non-responding window) will disappear a while.

Showing a dialog and quits there save everybody's time IMHO.

Log when the VBox got stuck with guru meditation.

The log shows that VirtualBox tried to stop the VM when memory was tight (to do what you hinted, exactly this behavior was implemented long time ago), but it didn't work out because memory allocations failed all over the place.
