#22168 new defect

No shared folders in Windows 10 guest

Reported by: sunrider Owned by:
Component: shared folders Version: VirtualBox-7.1.0
Keywords: Cc: sunrider
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description (last modified by sunrider)

Host: Ubuntu 22.04, kernel 5.15.0-119-generic

Guest: Windows 10, 22H2, OS build 19045.4780 and 19045.4894

VBox 7.1.0 just installed

guest additions 7.1.0 installed in above Win10 guest

After the install of the 7.1.0 guest additions, shared folders are no longer found. Windows network discovery finds VBOXSVR, but no network drive shares. Manual network drive mapping also fails.

I have another Win10 guest, still with the 7.0.20 guest additions, running on the same host. With the old guest additions the shared folders are available.

Please provide a patch ASAP or a guest additions 7.0.20 fallback iso image. Thanks!

screenshot available of Win10 network mapping attempt showing VBOXSVR but no network shares. There seems to be no way to add more attachments in this new ticket web interface.

No such shared folder problems are encountered in Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) guests.

The Guest Additions ISO image are always available as a separate download, we just don't list it on the usual pages to avoid clutter (and the knee-jerk reaction of some people to download it when 99.9999% of them would be perfectly happy with the Guest Additions ISO included in every base package): https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.20/VBoxGuestAdditions_7.0.20.iso

I can confirm that installing the 7.0.20 guest additions over the 7.1.0 guest additions is a workaround for the shared folders problem.

Same problem with Windows 11 Guest.

The problem is no longer present in VBox 7.1.6 host + guest additions 7.1.6 in the same Win10 guest where the original problem had been observed.

I did not check 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 guest additions when they were released.

Please ignore my last comment. The issue is NOT gone with 7.1.6. It was a handling error on my side.
