Linux screen-saver activates while typing in guest

Keywords: | screen-saver keyboard | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Linux |
Description
Host: openSUSE 11.0 Guest: Windows XP (SP3) Windowed mode. Although I'm typing in an XP window the Linux Gnome screen-saver activates. This results in missing character(s) as further keyboard activity then deactivates the screen-saver before passing key-strokes to the application. Windows screen-saver is disabled.

I suggest that VirtualBox inhibits the hosts screen saver when the keyboard is captured. Use case here: We have people here who give presentations using Powerpoint inside a Virtualbox on a Linux host. The host computer doesn't know that buttons on the keyboard are being pressed, and hence the screensaver kicks in every N minutes during the presentation, which is annoying.

This problem no longer occurs using VirtualBox Version 3.1.2 on openSUSE 11.2 64-bit. I consider it fixed.

Sorry, forgot to check the log (attached). This says "Your keyboard layout does not appear to fully supported by VirtualBox". Could this be part of the problem? I have a German keyboard with dead keys, but I have no problems with "special" characters in the guest OS.
