I found out that it has to do with loading guest additions in the Linux guest. This however does not work through the menu, but has t be installed manually. After that all resolutions work fine and the driver vboxvideo is added to xorg.conf The bugreport therefor should be changed to the inability of using the menu option install guest additions when in a linux guest. in xp guest it works fine.

That's a difference between Linux and Windows. Afaik there's no way to do this in Linux.

Peter, please have a look at section 9.12 of the VirtualBox user manual. Are you able to resize the Kubuntu guest window with the mouse and does the guest resolution change?
