Ah, the icon shows up on the gnome desktop guest. Probably what I should have done in the first place. It would be a "nice to have" if the ISO showed up also in the list of CD ISO's that could be selected from "mount image". Funny thing is, it "it wasn't listed there" when this ticket was opened. Today it shows in there twice... Something might merit a bit of a look. Should the ISO have shown up in the mount CD section automatically in the first place?

No, the additions .ISO is not part of the registered .ISO images as long as you don't install the additions at least once. The first time you are trying to install the guest additions, the media list is searched for this image. If it is not found, a few directories are scanned for the file (the image is part of the PUEL packages). In case the image was not found, the user is asked for permission to download the image from the internet.
Which VirtualBox 2.1.2 package did you install? What happens if you select the menu entry 'Install Guest Additions ...'?
