VBoxSDL keyboard mapping not working over remote X

Description
If I log in to the host which is running VirtualBox via ssh, setting the DISPLAY to my maschine and start the guest '/opt/VirtualBox/VBoxSDL -vm WinXP1' the keyboard is unusable.
Pressing q gives me an r, w -> p and so on.
The same guest over VNC works.
Locale set to
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_TIME=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_COLLATE=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_MONETARY=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_ALL=
