Host-only network has limited or no connectivity ==> Fixed in SVN

Hi, I have installed VirtualBox 2.2.0 on Windows XP SP3 and after installation pop-up opened on host "VirtualBox Host-Only Network has limited or no connectivity.

I started guest and browsers displays internet web pages without any problem. I am using NAT config for network, so this probably does not using this type of network driver is it? This is probably only related to host-only network settings. But I don't use this type of network connection, so I don't really urgently need this problem to be solved.

This is actually because the DHCP server for host-only network starts only when some guest using that network is started.
So this should not cause any problems to host/guest networking.

This DOES cause problems: very slow booting for WinXP host. Using NAT for my Solaris 10 guest, installing the Vbox host-only networking does not effect guest connectivity, but it does create havoc for the host that manifests itself with slow booting (~10x slower than normal, with most time spent on "preparing network connections").

The User Manual should make it apparent that Vbox Host-only networking is not required if your guest uses NAT, and thus should not be installed on Windows hosts if NAT will be used.

We've fixed this issue.
For those willing to try a fix: please send me a mail at Mikhail dot Sennikovsky at sun dot com. I'll then send you a link to a new test VBox version containing the fix.

I'm using VBox 3.1.2 and I have the problem yet on windows seven home premium... the VirtualBox Host-Only Network refuse to work giving me an error... giving me an error like: unidentified network, no access to the network, public network... I installed XP on my virtual machine but I have not connection on XP while Windows 7 is always connected... why? Merry Christmas to all!

It is not possible to connect guest to internet with the host-only adapter. It is intented to be used for host-only networking, that connects one or more guests + host with a virtual network.
Please use Bridged or NAT networking if you need internet access in the guest.
As I understand the err message on the screen-shot, your adapter fails to get the correct IP address.
Try setting static IP configuration for the host-only adapter and see if it helps.
Also make sure you have correct DHCP server settings for the host-only network.
All this can be set up via VBox GUI, via "File"->"Preferences"->"Network"->select host-only adapter you want to use->click "Edit Host-Only interface" button on the right. Needless to say that you need proper networking settings in the guest as well.

I am using Vbox 3.1.4, Host OS Windows 7 home premium and guest OD as Windows XP. I seem to have a similar issue where the Virtual Box-Host only Netwok has no network access. I cannot access internet on guest OS.
