Just to be sure, you are using the X11 clipboard (as in Edit->Copy and Edit->Paste) rather than the X11 selection mechanism (as in select with the mouse and double click to paste)?

Hi!
I tried both things, ie. selection & middle-mouse-button, but with Win2K nothing works.
In the meantime I also installed XP Home and there it copy & paste works from XP (guest) --> Linux (host), but not vice versa.
Sincerely,
Gour

So far no success in reproducing your problem. I tried setting up an Xfce guest with xfce4-clipman running, but the shared clipboard works fine there. I will try installing xfce on a host system next. [Note: an additional problem which we discovered while attempting to reproduce the problem is that AbiWord interprets UTF8 strings we send it as plain text. This may be because we are sending NULL-terminated strings, contrary to the UTF8_STRING definition.]

On a Xubuntu host, I see the same thing as you when I enable the xfce4 clipboard manager. When I disable it again, the problem disappears. It seems that the clipboard manager does not like the clipboard selection offered by VirtualBox and reasserts the one which was available before.
I have also had reports that Wine applications running on the host can interfere with the shared clipboard in a similar way.

Replying to michael:

Interesting...
Here eg. copy from xfce's Terminal to Notepad works when clipman is disabled, but from notepad to terminal gives garbled (Croatian) chars.
Same with eg. gvim, but copy from gvim does not enable (actually it disables it) 'Paste' menu in notepad :-(
So, even with disabled clipman, I get buggy behaviour.
Anything I can test and/or produce some new log?
Sincerely,
Gour
Did you set the "Shared Clipboard" to "Bidirectional" in "VM settings / General / Advanced"?
