Virtual machine hangs on startup if VT-x enabled

Component: | VMM/HWACCM | Version: | VirtualBox 3.0.0 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Solaris |
Description
In VirtualBox 3.0.0 virtual machine hangs on startup if VT-x is enabled in Processor Options. Even BIOS fade-in/fade-out sequence is not shown, just some garbage in frame-buffer.
If I turn off VT-x, machine starts OK.
VT-x setting worked fine in previous versions of VirtualBox, namely 2.2.4, 2.2.0, etc.
Hardware: Dual Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5450, 32 GB RAM Os: Solaris 10 05/09

Same problem here with Solaris 10 5/09 u7, AMD Opteron 1218 processor.
Works fine on OpenSolaris 2009.06 (AMD Phenom II X4 940 processor), though.

Similar problem with AMD Phenom 9650 quad-core. I can't change the vt-x settings in GUI. I had to edit the XML file manually to switch it off. But no matter if it had been switched off or not, the VM couldn't start up, reporting that there's no hardware vt-x support.

This is a generic issue. We're working on it as fast as we can. It works better on OpenSolaris, but that doesn't mean it's quite as it should.
