Description
I am unable to enclose a log file as this problem occurs when VB 3 is installed (not running).
I have Windows shares on a Vista 32 PC. The share is 'seen' by my internet radio/media player. When VB is installed the share is no longer visible to the other unit. Uninstalling VB restores the share.
This problem arose first with 2.2.2

To be sure: You have mounted a drive from another Windows PC to your Vista PC, correct? And as soon as VirtualBox is installed you cannot access this remote drive anymore, is that correct?

Probably a host interface conflict. Could you try to install 3.0.8 and unselect the host interface checkbox?

The setup is as follows: a folder on my Vista PC is shared. I can access this folder from my internet radio as a media player. When VB 3 is installed, then the media player can no longer can 'see' the Vista PC - it disappears from the list of shred devices.

To clarify further: the loss of the Vista PC as a shared device happens as soon as VB is installed - it doesn't have to be running

Oh..oh - not so fast! The original problem is fixed BUT a new related one has been introduced!
If I run Vbox then the Vista share disappears along with a NAS share. The only available share is the Vbox guest! If I close VBox then the other two device shares reappear!

So this time the shares vanish when you start a VBox VM? Or is it sufficient to start the VBox GUI?
The shares vanish when I start the VM - Win7. The Win7 VM then appears as a shared PC. Closing the VM returns the original shared devices.
Okay - did that. Original shares remain. But of course then the VM is practically useless as it has no network connectivity.

If I select NAT then I lose the network shares on the host PC in the VM.
It's a sort of Catch-22 ...
Well, it could be that switching your network card into promiscuous mode has this effect. Either your media player doesn't like this or a router in between is acting up.

Not sure what you mean ... to sum up so far: with network bridge mode the device shares disappear, but the VM appears as a share. With NAT the device shares are listed on media player, but the host shares are lost on the VM. It's a mess - especially as there was no problem with an earlier VBox.

Replying to castalla: Could you please try the latest VBox 3.1 version to see whether it fixes your issue.

Thanks - this looks more promising! Tested a couple of times, and all shares appear.
Seems to have been solved! Thanks.
