aero effect in Windows 7

Hello,

It seems that a lot of people would like to use aero effect of Windows 7 with VirtualBox. I believe the reason is the video driver of virtualbox which don't support WDDM. The future version of virtualBox will let the aero effect ?

I use Windows 7 RC on VirtualBox, but it seems to not work correctly without Aero support. Hope aero support comes with 3.2.

Aero support is currently under development.

As of the new major 4.x release this still has not been implemented. Enabling all graphics support and D3D does nothing to help, and the windows troubleshooter continues to say it's likely because the video driver is not WDDM compliant. This severely limits the use of virtualbox with applications, not just in seeing Aero mode.

This is really sad, as long as Win7 has been out, there is still no Aero support...

This has been a work in progress since 2009, how much longer will this be, anyone have any ideas to clue us in?

I would like to know more info on this.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 11.04 x64 with VirtualBox 4.0.12 running Windows 7 x64 with 2GB RAM and 8 cores(core i7) set in the virtual machine settings. The video memory has been given the full amount allowed.

I have used VMWare Workstation and the aero worked perfectly fine, but development lead me to using VirtualBox which is priority to include Aero for development purposes.

Information would really be useful or perhaps even a beta driver?

Using Direct3D experimental is not very good at all and will crash certain WPF programs when being used and Aero is still not able to be activated.

I installed 4.1 and tried to update the guest addons, but for Direct3D it still is telling me that the installer must be run in safe-mode.

I tried with 4.1 and Aero support is still not working yet. Direct3D installation is still only available in safe mode. I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 SP1 on a BootCamp partition.

Ah, just tried once more with the steps described in manual. It works now! Thanks to bring this in. Great!

Still cant get it working with 7 and vbox 4.1.8 with 3d installed and all
