Hi, I have the exact same problem as the original poster. Ubuntu host, Windows XP guest, and Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. I can use our USB printer and other USB devices, but when I try to attach the tablet I get the same error as the original poster.
I already installed the Wacom drivers in my Windows XP guest, and I would love if I could get to use them. Thanks!

Hi, I have got the same problem. But with Virtual Box 1.5.0
I am using Kubuntu 7.04 as HOST, Windows XP SP2 as GUEST and a ArkMicroChips USB-UART Controller (USB to Serial).
When I plug ths USB Device I get:
Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_READ_ERROR). Resulting Code: 0x80004005 Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}

This USB Device works fine with native Windows XP SP2.

Add me to the ones having the same problem. And I would really, really much like a fix for this.
Wacom Intous3. VirtualBox 1.5.2 on Ubuntu 7.10, the box running winXP.

Well, AFAIK, this is because the wacom module gets loaded in linux first, and thus the guest cannot access it, try rmmod'ing the wacom module and see.

I solved this problem by removing kino, that had created a rule for udev which stopped virtualbox from working correctly. Computer needs restart after removing kino to reload udev rules.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem.
In a Windows XP Guest with Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.
It's not about a Wacom Intuos 3 but a Bluetooth USB dongle.
When I plug the dongle, it freezes the whole screen, nothing can be done, except moving the mouse but no more click (it's an USB mouse).
I have to remove the dongle and every is OK again except that this message appears : Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error : VERR_READ_ERROR)...
This happens since I made the following changes on my ubuntu box :
SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", MODE="0666" in /etc/udev/rules.d/40-permissions.rules
and
"none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=<NoGroupefstab>,devmode=666 0 0" in /etc/fstab
Before that, I got a problem of persmission on usbfs.
What informations can we give so that it's more helpfull ?
VirtualBox is a very good software, I hope to get this bug fixes so that I can syncrhonise my phone on my Ubuntu Box :)
