I am using VirtualBox 3.0.4 on Ubuntu 9.04 host and a vdmk image of my windows XP sp3 guest. CPU load has been an issue from the beginning. After two weeks, I have upgraded every driver I could find and attempted most combos of parameters I could
Please note I am running on a DELL Latitude D630 with an Intel DualCore, but I am declaring only one processor. All attempts to use 2 processors with IO-ACPI and VT-x enabled failed to boot.
After booting the VM, CPU usage on Host is stable at 46 - 48% CPU usage on Guest varies periodically from 5% to 100%. I isolated the servcices.exe as the CPU consumer and started shutting down services one after another but failed to locate the faulty one.
Remark one: 48% CPU usage on Host is a lot...

IO-APIC overhead is a known problem and documented. Switch to VT-x.
