Mouse stops tracking in WindowsXP on Linux

Whenever I plug in my iPod touch to the virtual machine by going Devices>USB devices> MyiPod, the mouse stops moving visually. However, the mouse can still click different things, and it still changes icons when appropriate. I am able to click things, just not see where the pointer is at.
The pointer is not captured by the VM until the I plug in the ipod virtually.
