Please, replace the file description name into /usr/share/applications in lowercase format :

mv /usr/share/applications/VirtualBox.desktop /usr/share/applications/virtualbox.desktop. If not, the menu wrong.

Of course we can do the rename but would you mind to give me some more details? Why has the .desktop file to be in lowercase format? The menu seems to look right here if I install VBox 3.0.4 on Debian/Lenny.

You're sure? I installed VirtualBox twice and each time I had to save the file name to lowercase the menu appears. Provide details about why and how, I want the doc. You still see that all files in the directory / usr / share / applications are lowercase.

Well, I see the same problem with the package on Ubuntu when using the GNOME interface. We changed the case of the .desktop file in the 3.0.6_BETA1 but it seems that this still does not help.

In VirtualBox 3.0.6 the .desktop file has lower case but AFAICS, the problem perists.

Just for information, the menu entry for VirtualBox was also not appearing and disappearing immediately for me in Ubuntu when I installed or removed VirtualBox. I discovered that there was also a copy of the desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications. Removing that fixed the problem for me. I just don't know how it got there...
