Crashes on 64-bit kernel with 3D acceleration enabled
Reported by: | Jason Oster | Owned by: | |

Component: | 3D support | Version: | VirtualBox 3.0.6 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Mac OS X |
Description
Host is running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1 under the 64-bit kernel:
parasyte@Frylock:~$ uname -a Darwin Frylock.local 10.0.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0: Fri Jul 31 22:46:25 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1456.1.25~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64
Guest is running Windows XP SP3.
Enabling or disabling 3D acceleration causes a crash. (See crash log.) Restarting VirtualBox shows the 3D acceleration status as "Enabled" -- Running GPU Caps Viewer shows OpenGL version 1.1, instead of the expected 2.0
Booting the Host into its 32-bit kernel allows 3D acceleration to work, and does not crash when enabling/disabling the option.

The crashing seems to be fixed in version 3.0.8. Unfortunately, 3D acceleration still does not work under the 64-bit kernel (OS X host). Using the 32-bit kernel, all is well.

Please open another ticket if the 3D support is still not working with VBox 3.0.10.

With the crash solved, the issue of 3D support not working still exists in 3.0.10. Taking this to Ticket #5352.
Same issue when host is Ubuntu 64-bit. Disabling 3D acceleration "solves" the problem.
