OpenSuse 11.1 Guest Additions Keyboard issues -> fixed in SVN

Installing guest additions in OpenSuse 11.1 guest works fine, but the keyboard maps revert to US qwerty. If you then change the keyboard maps to the installed keyboard (in my case Belgian), after a restart keyboard stops working in graphical environments (console sessions are fine, and use the appropriate keyboard map). Happens on both 64 and 32 bit versions of OpenSuse.

Please could you attach the Xorg.0.log file of your guest as well as the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf (the latter if it there exists).

This is probably due to the fact that we now replace xorg.conf on SUSE guests with a custom one, since it is rather hard to reliably change SUSE's autogenerated configuration file. However, it appears that SUSE set the keyboard layout in xorg.conf.

I can confirm the problem in 3.0.8: The guest additions changed the keyboard from german to us, I changed it back, no further problems. I will attache the modified xorg.conf

In the meantime, I have switched to Additions 3.0.8, and the symptoms are different there. I'll be opening a ticket for 3.0.8. You may close this ticket if you want...

I wish to report the same problem using Fedora 10 as the host OS and Suse 11.1.

Suse installs fine and operates, but after installing Additions (I'm running VB 3.08) the keyboard is no longer working in graphical mode. This is very hard to debug as a result.

I did try inserting ctrl-alt-delete using the box Machine menu and this works fine.

I ran the Suse repair app and it insisted on repairing the grub loader, but after the repair it said it still had a problem and wanted to do it again. I expect they have a scripting error or there is a bad char in the string that is loaded.

I reinstalled Suse and everything is working fine without Additions. I suppose I could install Additions and then mount the partition using another virtual system and explore the disk as long as I can read it (I'm not a Suse user and don't know if they do anything funny to the disk). I've never tried this but would be willing to help you explore the problem if asked.

I didn't think of trying that at the time, or chances are I'd have been able to fix the problem or give you a lot more intelligent feedback.

Does the keyboard run in text-mode? What is the keyboard section of your xorg.conf?

From the login-screen, you should choose Menu -> Text mode, log in as root, and run sax2 -r for a new configuration of the X-Server - or try the xorg.conf attached to this problem (you may want to change the keyboard back from german.
