Description
Hello,
there seems to be a compatibility bug in the VBox USB drivers. I tried v. 3.0.6 and 3.0.8 and both end in the same scenario.
I try to assign my webcam (CAM44U) from a Win7 x64 Host into a Win XP x86 guest machine. At first Win7 shows that it cannot install the driver.
After that i shutdown the guest and install the VBox USB driver by myself by updating the driver from the camera.
After i start my virtual machine everything works ok until i start my cam. The host system crashes with a bluescreen. Like attached in the screenshot.

Can you give us access to the minidump of that particular crash? Check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263 for details about minidumps.

Minidump after a Win7 x64 + VBOX 3.0.8 Crash
comment:4 by , 15 years ago
Hi, i uploaded the file. Sorry it took long because by following the pasted link was not successfull for me to get a minidump.
It seems that Win7 x64 does not create a minidump if the %SystemRoot%\Minidump folder does not exist. I had to create a %SystemRoot%\Minidump by myself...

Not easy to see what's wrong. Could you give us the exact brand and model of the web cam? Just don't use it for now in the VM.

CAM44U, http://www.gembird.nl/default.aspx?ref=CAM44U&op=products&op2=item&id=3527 It is no problem for me to buy a new cam ... i just wanted to tell that it is still a possibility to get a bsod with certain usb devices.

What about the "USB Bandwidth exceeded" warning in the windows taskbar?

There appears to be some problem getting the configuration for this device. Something is seriously broken in our code, so it just has to be fixed.

icstrasher: your comments have been deleted. I don't see what connection they have with this defect. I suggest you go to the forum and ask there first.

The driver installs correct, but when I try to open the cam I get a Bluescreen on my host.

Please open a new ticket with the outstanding problems. USB host support for Windows hosts was rewritten for 4.1 so test 4.1.6 first.
Because of the Restriction of 400kb i cannot upload my Screenshot... its not necessary.
Host Bluescreen shows:
A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down..... to your computer.
