Guest freezes under Ubuntu 9.10

Description
The guest OS freezes and/or slows to a crawl under Ubuntu 9.10, 2.6.31-14-generic. Tested with both Windows XP and Windows 7. The lock-ups occur during the Windows boot logo, so I doubt that the guest additions are even getting loaded. Disk activity freezes as well, and then intermittently starts and stops again. Note that this does *not* happen when running 9.10 with the 9.04 2.6.28-16-generic kernel.
