Just tried removing all traces of virtualbox I could find and re-installing, then re-importing the applicance which has worked on other machines. Still I get 'A critical error has occured while running the machine and the machine execution has been stopped...'

Hmm, I disabled the USB port (as I noticed today that one of my usb ports has stopped working on this old macbook) and the booting got past 'loading GRUB' to the first ubuntu screen, but then the same error occured. log attached next.

I've got the same experience with 3.0.12 - kernel panic on 64-bit guests. Host: GNU/Debian lenny 5.0.2, Guests: RHEL 5.4 x64 and CentOS 5.4 x64. 32-bit guests are working well (WinXP, GNU/Debian lenny 5.0.2). After downgrade to 3.0.10 it's working well again.
