Description
In User Guide PDF for v3.1.0 there are two little bugs related to distribution versions.
On page page 15 there is text:
Linux hosts (32-bit and 64-bit3). Among others, this includes:
– Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (“sarge”), 4.0 (“etch”) and 5.0 (“lenny”)
– Fedora Core 4 to 11
– Gentoo Linux
– Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5
– SUSE Linux 9 and 10, openSUSE 10.3, 11.0 and 11.1
– Ubuntu 6.06 (“Dapper Drake”), 6.10 (“Edgy Eft”), 7.04 (“Feisty Fawn”),
7.10 (“Gutsy Gibbon”), 8.04 (“Hardy Heron”), 8.10 (“Intrepid Ibex”), 9.04
(“Jaunty Jackalope”).
– Mandriva 2007.1, 2008.0 and 2009.1
On web page there are lists of supported Linux versions:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads
I suggest to repair the version numbers of just write distribution name nad write
more info about supported OS look into web page (and attach link)
On page: 36 there is text:
2.3.4.1 Installing VirtualBox from a Debian/Ubuntu package
First, download the appropriate package for your distribution. The following examples
assume that you are installing to an Ubuntu Edgy system. Use dpkg to install the
Debian package:
sudo dpkg -i VirtualBox_3.1.0_Ubuntu_edgy.deb
Two problem:
- Edgy is not supported, look into: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads[[BR]]
- Files name have different names, release name, 32 or 64 bit support like:
sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-3.1_3.1.0-55467_Ubuntu_karmic_i386.deb
The second typo was fixed. Regaring the first problem: We don't only support Linux hosts which we provide packages for. For instance, we don't provide a dedicated Ubuntu Edgy package but the .run installer should install fine on this distribution.
