Description
I'd just like to thank Sun for reminding how important it is to create a drive image before updating software: Tried to install v 3.0.12, blue screen of death, gave up and rolled back to 2.2.2. How about some upgrade advice? Absolute nonsense!

I think you are missing the point. Your application offered the upgrade. It failed. There was no advice on removal of previous installations, no advice on stopping which services, no advice on anything. One therefore assumes that you have a solid and robust installer which will do this for you. I watched the installation several times, there was no indication at which point it crashed. Why wouldn't 2.2.2 re-install? Reading your website and other forums it would appear that I am not the only one with installation issues. The machine is a standard laptop, nothing special, Vista SP2.

There were quite a few installation issues in the 2.2 series. I suggest you uninstall 2.2.2 and try again with 3.x from scratch. There's another ticket with similar problems and upgrade advise. See http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3701#comment:6

How can we give an advice if you don't provide any information? The data of the BSOD along with some information of your system would be much more helpful than sarcasm. It would be interesting to know at which point (installation of drivers etc.) of the update the BSOD occurred too.
