A full 1 second delay on opening programs from the desktop of host machine when VirtualBox is installed, whether it's in use or not, even after fresh reboot. Problem disappeared instantly after uninstall. It was enough of an annoyance and productivity loss to stop using it (although I extremely enjoyed the ease-of-use).

I installed it without USB and host network features as asked. Problem does not exist now but Virtualbox is unusable to me without these features. Motherboard is DFI Lanparty DK 790FXB-M3H5. Device Manager in Win764bit shows NIC as "Generic Marvell Yukon 88E8056 based Ethernet Controller" and USB subsystem is all standard Windows device drivers. I hope this helps your diagnosis.

Never seen that. Try installing without the USB and/or host network features.
