I tried installing an old game, Lego Racer, on a freshly instlled XP SP3 Guest running guest additions. Upon starting the program, the screen shrinks (probably to 640x480, music plays for a few seconds, and then the guest dies.
I have a Window 7 x64 host.

Sorry, I should have been more specific about how it disappears: the guest window suddenly vanishes, and the VirtualBox console says the guest aborted.
I'll try the combinations of disabling and see if it fixes anything.

I can not reproduce it here. What do you mean by "the guest dies"? is it bluescreens ? or is the host VirtualBox VM process gets crashed?
Could you also try it with disabled 2D or/and disabled 3D acceleration (which can be configured in VM Display settings) and see if it works with any of Disabled/Enabled 2D/3D combinations?
