Replying to frank:
Which CentOS exactly? Which guest kernel?
5.3. For reference, this is happening on a Windows 7 64 and Server 2008R2 64 host.

Problem persists even on CENTOS 5.4 with the latest kernel from redhat 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5

Now under 3.2.4 with CentOS 5.4, the problem seems even more pronounced. Randomly the keyboard registers 50 characters on a key tap, and that's when the clock jumps 3 seconds forward. This is with guest additions installed with a brand new, running-for-5-minutes-total guest with not even any patches installed.
Is this being worked?

Sometimes the user manual can be actually very helpful: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch12.html#id2662778
