FlexiNetwork: Cannot change network attachment
Reported by: | Technologov | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | network | Version: | VirtualBox 3.1.2 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | other | Host type: | Windows |
Description (last modified by )
VBox 3.1.x provides a way to change network attachment on the fly, which I call "FlexiNetwork".
In some cases this feature does not work.
Host: Windows Vista, 32bit, VBox 3.1.2 with 3 NICs (2 Ethernet and 1 WiFi)
Guest: [none] Empty VM, 1 vNIC
Steps to reproduce: (sometimes reproducible)
- Start Empty VM (1 vNIC = NAT)
- Switch network attachment type from "NAT" to "Bridged"
- Choose the host's network adapter you wish to attach to
Actual Results: (sometimes) It automatically chooses the first host's adapter and user can't choose otherwise from the drop-down menu.
Expected results: It should ask the user which host's adaper he wanna use

I don't know about the empty VM or none, but it does work in a real VM. Why would anyone need to do this on an empty guest? Just curious.

I have the same problem on any VMs.
It is more reproducible (not 100%) in the following way:
- Start with NAT
- Switch VM to bridged mode, attach to physical NIC 1
- Switch VM to back to NAT
- Switch VM to bridged mode, attach to physical NIC 2
- Switch VM to back to NAT

Should work with VBox 4.2.
Added screenshot. In this case both "Bridged Adapter" button and "Realtek" button became non-clickable.
