"FATAL: Error inserting vboxvfs (/lib/modules/2.6.27.19-5-default/misc/vboxvfs.ko): Protocol error"

Yes, that's a "new feature". Apparently the error was due to a unfinished kernel update, or it was fixed by the update, i'm not sure.

Note that the guest additions of the next maintenance release will contain a fix for this SLES11 feature.

I assume that SLES11 prevents the vboxadd+vboxvfs modules from being loaded. Please edit /etc/modprobe.d/unsupported-modules and change the entry to allow_unsupported_modules 1, then restart your guest.
