Description
After recently updating my VBox installation (in an OSOL 2009.06 zone), I now can't do much of anything:
# VBoxSDL --help VBoxSDL: Error -1912 in supR3HardenedMainInitRuntime! VBoxSDL: RTR3Init failed with rc=-1912 VBoxSDL: Tip! It may help to reinstall VirtualBox.
I get the same result from VBoxHeadless --help
, to say nothing of attempts to actually start a VM!
I've already reinstalled VBox several times.

The problem seems to have been "fixed" by also installing VBox in the global zone, (so the kernel modules would be loaded?) But I really don't want VBox in the global zone. Is there any way around that?

No, drivers are part of the kernel, you cannot load drivers "contained" in a zone. So you need to install VirtualBox in the global zone always, what is the disadvantage to doing so other than consuming a few megabytes of space? You can always just not use it from the global zone, it just sits quietly in a "/opt/VirtualBox" folder.

This looks like a driver version mismatch. Did you install the package from IPS/pkg(5) repository? If so did you update your drivers (by running pfexec /opt/VirtualBox/pkginstall.sh)?
