jfzed, the original 3.1.6 package for Mac OS X (build 59338) was broken. Please upload the Mac OS X package again (build 59351) and try again. We were not able to reproduce your problem with that package. Thank you!
the log-file I uploaded is 3.1.6 "VirtualBox 3.1.6 r59338" reflects the build you indicate above; I tried and fails as per log-file.
please advice should I try another build; thanks;

No, you misunderstood me (and there was a typo in my comment). Please download the Mac OS X package again, the build number (contained in the package name) is now 59351. The 59338 package was definitely broken.

Yeas, I did d/load and try 3.1.6 r59351 and a guest of 2 x CPUs for W7-64-bit; It is running; will report should it fail.
N.N. The task-bar behavior under W7 is different; I have it set for auto-hide so it shows only if I move the mous near the lower edge of the screen; it does not work; I changed this option unmarked, e.g show the bar permanently, it does show it; if I select to auto-hide again, it does not work. Guest additions were installed; task-behaviour still does not work properly; fyi;

update: crash that I consistently experienced with 64-bit OSes Ubuntu and MS W7 configured with 2 x CPUs seems resolved in 3.1.6 r59351
A minor problem is the behaviour of the task-bar when auto-hide is selected; other than that all is working well; thanks;

update: Windows 7 64-bit 2 x CPU freeze; VB 100% CPU on host; at the time I was accessing a CD via MS Windows file explorer.
reconfiguring with 1 x CPU and report experience; this looks to me as the same problem I have experienced with 64-bit and 2 x CPUs configuration.

update: from my experience so far, I can conclude that the 1 x CPU works fine; it does not crash; 2 x CPU configuration freezes, 100% CPU VB on the host Mac 10.6.2 for a W7 64-bit guest on 3.1.6 r59351;

While this bug was marked as duplicate, #7454 occurred whether I used 1 x CPU or 2 x CPU. That appears to be different from the above scenario. It is 64-bit Ubuntu though.
