USB printing not possible with XP guest on Vista host

Description
My USB printer detects and installs fine, but enters an error state after issuing a print command. The printer is listed as installed and "Ready" and printed items correctly enter the print queue. This is using a Windows XP guest running on a Windows Vista host. The printer has been tested both on Windows XP and Windows Vista running natively and prints fine.
