Description
I suggest IEC standard prefixes (binary) for file size are used instead of commonly used but ambiguous prefixes KB, MB, ...
I encountered these in localization file.
Binary prefixes are defined in IEC 60027-2:2005

Sorry, actually this change was reverted.

Any reason this can't be done in a minor release? The next major release could be a long wait, and making some string replacements MB->MiB, etc., is pretty trivial.

The reason is that it was decided to not switch to these prefixes, at least not in short term.

We had long discussions about this and there were even internal builds of VirtualBox that used IEC prefixes. We found that the vast majority of users do not understand those prefixes and get confused.
We agreed that once the operating system vendors switch to IEC, we will do so as well. Of course IEC prefixes are a good thing but we don't feel like we should educate users at the cost of making our product less user friendly.
The next major release will switch to the new prefixes.
