Run a VM full screen on a second monitor While the VM has focus, click on a menu on the host's menu panel (the one with Application/Places/System etc.) The menu text or icon is highlighted, but the dropdown does not appear.

Please correct me if I'm wrong: You are starting a VM with one guest monitor and you make this VM fullscreen on the second monitor. That way you are able to access the host menu on the first screen, correct?

Yes. My host has two monitors. The right one shows the hosts main desktop including the Ubuntu menu panel. The left show the guest in full screen mode (which happens to be Windows XP). If the guest has focus and I click on the Ubuntu menu on the right monitor, the top menu item (or icon) is highlighted but it does not drop down. The work-around is to click on the host desktop before clicking on the Ubuntu menu panel.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
The VM is running the Guest Additions 3.2.4
