Description
virtual box has poor visual support for older versions of windows such as 98 or 2000. you are forced to run windows 98 in 16color mode and 640x480 resolution. the virtual machine indicates that hardware doesn't support higher color settings

You need to install the guest additions. They are not available for Win98, but that's discussed elsewhere.
