Environment

VirtualBox 3.2.10 r66523 Windows XP guest

Actions

Whilst experimenting with possible workarounds to #5266

• Start menu
• My Computer | right click
• Manage
• expand Services and Applications
• select Services
• click to maximise the window
• click the scroll bar, drag down until VirtualBox Guest Additions Service is visible
• select VirtualBox Guest Additions Service | right click
• Restart

Windows could not stop the VirtualBox Guest Additions Service service on Local Computer Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Now Service Manager shows it as having no Status (not running) and your only option is now Start the Service

Without restarting the Windows XP guest, subsequent attempts to restart VirtualBox Guest Additions Service seem to be fine; the restarts occur quickly, and no error is presented.
