I just tested XP x64 as a guest with recent Guest Additions and it all works fine for me here. Did you try whether 4.0.2 fixed that for you in the meanwhile? If not, could you please upload the setupapi* logs of the guest after the unsuccessful Guest Additions installation?

I don't know if 4.0.2 has fixed the Guest Additions problem, I never got that far.
Instead I got a host BSoD related to VBoxNetFlt.sys, so once again I'm going back to 3.0.14

So this is a different bug now: "Host BSoD on XP x64".
Not related to Guest Additions anymore.

Please reopen if still relevant.
Bear in mind that official Windows XP support will be dropped in 5.0 release.
Upload VBox log.
BTW: XP x64 guest fully works with v4.0.0-BETA3 on XP/32 on Intel host, so unless there was some major regression in v4.0.0 Final we should look at XP/64 host support.
