This may not be limited to linux. I've also encountered this issue with different official builds (older and newer, including a recent test build, win-4.0-rel-4.0.5-r70174-MultiArch). The host is Windows XP 32 bit, guest Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit). It's very rare. The guest freezes, while the GUI doesn't, until I try to do something with it (e.g. reset the the guest). It has done that several times after updating the freshly installed OS, before rebooting. 1-2 times after rebooting from updating, at logon screen. One time while I was installing something (I think it was ActivePython). All that over a longer time period and different versions. Guest additions were never installed.
