Trying to resolve inability to create/import/modify any VM on my WindowsXP host, I've don a fresh install, and got the attached when staring VirtualBox immediately after install.
Please advise.

Are you sure that the current user is able to create the directory which is displayed in the error message? Please also be aware that you should install VirtualBox as normal user, not as admin.

- The current user is certainly able to create the directory in question.
- I'm installing VirtualBox as a user with admin rights, but username != Administrator. Is this a problem? Can I change the user to "Limited", install, and then change back to Administrator?

Hi,
I just found a workaround that solves the problem for me, and might indicate where the root cause lies: Invoking VirtualBox.exe from within a cygwin bash shell works perfectly!
