#8555 new defect

Wrong resolution in full screen mode.

Reported by: Oksenchuk Dmitry Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 4.0.4

Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

I use external monitor connected to my notebook. This monitor has bigger resolution than notebook's screen. When I start virtualbox on this monitor and switch to full screen mode guest os takes height of notebook's screen and width of extarnal monitor (see screenshot). Turn off/turn on option "Auto-resize Guiest Display" in fullscreen mode nothing changes. To get correct resolution I shoud come back from fullscreen mode, turn off "Auto-resize Guiest Display", switch to fullscreen mode and turn on "Auto-resize Guiest Display" (see screenshot). Seamless mode also takes wrong display size (see screenshot). In normal mode I can't resize virtualbox window more then notebook's resolution. Maximize button normal in mode works fine.

VirtualBox 4.0.8 Host: Ubuntu-10.10 ATI Radeon 4650 Configured with 2 separate desktops. Guest1: Windows XP Guest2: Ubuntu-11.04 Display 1: DVI 1920x1200 Display 2: VGA 1280x1024

Same problem with fullscreen mode. Problem occurs on Display 2 but not Display 1 with either guest OS. Problem is that fullscreen mode thinks second display is bigger than it actually is. Workaround indicated works for both guests (turn off auto resize before fullscreen mode activated, activate fullscreen, then activate auto resize to get VirtualBox to use the actual display size).

Same problem on Linux (RHEL5). When using two screens with two differents resolutions. If virtual box is on the secondary screen, the full screen will be with the primary screen resolution.

I want to support this ticket.

The Situation -- at my workplace Primary monitor is 1280x1024 (Big, desktop display, front of me) Secondary montor is 1280x800 (Laptop's display, on left side of big display).

-- at home Secondary monitor is 1280x1024 (Big, desktop display, front of me) Primary montor is 1280x800 (Laptop's display, on right side of big display).

I use the VirtualBox always on the secondary monitor in fullscreen mode. My secondary monitors are different size, depeneds on where am I. If I close the VB, I choose simple the "Save state". At home I close the VB, at my workplace I open it. And vica versa.

My Problem Well, my problem is that the VB wake up on right screen but "wrong" resolution (of course this is normal). I have to switch the VB window to other host display and back or I have exit from the fullscreen mode and back.

Ok, you can say this is my problem :) But I would like ask just a small thing: it would be great if the vbox service check the current resolution of the virtual and phisycal screen and resize the guest is these are different.

The system clock is syncronized when vbox wake up, let the resolution syncronized too :)
